Info for Cinema Paradiso

„Cinema Paradiso“ the celebrated prize-winning film from Guiseppe Tornatore takes its place as the godfather of this CD, and the captivatingly soulful melody that Ennio Morricone wrote for the film is a part of it all. These recordings capture memories from the movie screen and carry us along as they unwaveringly forge the path into a world of their own, out of the darkened theaters and into the luminous universe of sound. The music has an atmospheric undertow that pulls the listener into these familiar melodies that have now evolved a life of their own.

Jason Seizer
grew up in a family where music was an integral part of home life. Starting to play recorder and flute at age four, Seizer was a participant and winner in various contests for classical music. He switched to saxophone at the relatively late age of 23, after listening to John Coltrane's album "Ballads". Being part of the vibrant music scene in Munich since 1988, Jason Seizer is known for his natural talent, his spontaneous musical intuition, and a very personal, warm sound.

After his studies at the Hilversum Conservatory with Ferdinand Povel, he spent a couple of months in New York, where he had private tuition from players the caliber of Ralph Moore and Joe Lovano. Jason has published 5 CDs as a leader. Leading his own bands was always an inner urge and already with the release of his debut album "Patience" in August 1996 - accompanied by german pianist Walter Lang, Belgian bassist Nicolas Thys and American drummer Rick Hollander - he got a lot of recognition for his deep feeling and surprisingly mature playing.

Release number two, "Serenity"- recorded in 1998 - features a saxophone - guitar frontline with guitarist Peter Bernstein, followed by the year 2000 release "Sketches", where Seizers playing blends perfectly with the unique sound of today's highly acclaimed organ trio, the "Larry Goldings Trio". This again featured Peter Bernstein on guitar and Bill Stewart on drums and was produced by the German Label "Organic Music".

During the Nineties Seizer played with Rick Hollander, John Marshall, The Sunday Night Orchestra, Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion, Johannes Herrlich, The Munich Saxopone Family, Thomas Zoller, Walter Lang, Peter Bernstein, Bill Stewart, Dusko Goykovic, Maria Schneider and many others including several recording sessions as a sideman for a variety of German Jazzlabels.

After a 2 year period of almost musical quietness Seizer returns with his new Quartet with Marc Copland on piano, Henning Sieverts on bass and Jochen Rückert on drums in 2003. The music of this quartet is documented on 2 CDs for the Label Pirouet, "Fair Way" (2003) and "Serendipity" (2004). Listening to one of his earlier CDs, Seizers playing might display hints of influences such as John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Warne Marsh or Joe Henderson, but in the context of his latter work it becomes obvious that Seizer has developed his own vividly original musical style.
