Info for Bach in Venice

Transcription is a process in which a composition is set for a different solo instrument than the one originally intended. In the past, this was a more common practice than today, used for various reasons and purposes. This is also how the idea came about to create six new concertos for solo harpsichord and orchestra by using the original orchestral scores by Antonio Vivaldi and Alessandro Marcello as well as the harpsichord part of Johann Sebastian Bach's transcriptions. This new arrangement by Giulio De Nardo thus offers, on the one hand, the opportunity to expand the repertoire for keyboard instrument and orchestra and, on the other hand, to bring today's listeners, who are already familiar with the original versions, closer to the colours and nuances of this new sound combination with this world premiere recording. Since Bach never personally stayed in Venice, the album title has been placed in inverted commas.

Giulio de Nardo, harpsichord
Sestier Armonico

Giulio de Nardo
was born in Treviso in 1994 and received his first organ and piano lessons in his hometown. He then attended Roberto Antonello's organ class at the Conservatorio di Musica 'Arrigo Pedrollo' in Vicenza where, in the autumn of 2016, he obtained his first-level academic diploma. At the same time, having completed his musical studies in Italy, he moved to Basel where he was admitted to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and continued his organ studies in Tobias Lindner's class. At the same time, he began, in the same institute, the study of the harpsichord under the guidance of Francesco Corti. In spring 2018, he brilliantly completed his Master's degree in organ. He currently continues his musical studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he attends a second Master's degree specialising in harpsichord in the class of Andrea Marcon, also continuing his organ studies with Tobias Lindner and Wolfgang Zerer. In March 2019 he was awarded second prize at the 'Gianni Gambi' International Harpsichord Competition in Pesaro and in August of the same year he won first prize and the audience prize at the International Organ Competition held in the Valère Basilica in Sion. He performs concerts in Italy and abroad and regularly collaborates with various orchestras and vocal groups as a continuist on organ and harpsichord.
