Info for Mocambo Affair
Second album by the Cologne drummer and composer in his quartet line-up with Tony Lakatos (tenor saxophone), Billy Test (piano) and Doug Weiss (bass) as a CD in a beautifully designed three-part digipack on JazzJazz. After ‘Choose Loose’ (2022), ‘Mocambo Affair’ is the second album that Dominik Raab has recorded together with Tony Lakatos, Billy Test and Doug Weiss. Like the quartet's first album, it consists exclusively of original compositions by Raab, with the nine new tracks sounding even more gripping and passionate. Lakatos, Test, Weiss and Raab complement each other with somnambulistic confidence to form a virtuoso team that lets Raab's visions shine. ‘Mocambo Affair’ is a work of art as if from a single mould and offers pure listening pleasure. Rich in moods, colours and rhythms, it was recorded and mixed by Clemens Orth in the Salon de Jazz Studio in Cologne's Südstadt district, whose spatial intimacy also contributes to maximum listening pleasure. Wonderful jazz, lovingly fuelled by the tradition of swing and bebop, yet at the same time modern, fresh and thoroughly contemporary.
