Laura Vega
(Gran Canaria, 1978) is one of the most outstanding composers of contemporary music in Spain, with a very personal style that combines classical tradition with influences from current music and the folklore of the Canary Islands. She has developed a prolific career as a composer and teacher, being a relevant figure in the musical panorama of the Canary Islands. She studied piano, oboe and composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Las Palmas with Daniel Roca and Xavier Zoghbi. She expanded her training with José Luis de Delás at the University of Alcalá de Henares and with José María Sánchez Verdú at the Escuela Soto Mesa in Madrid.

In 2016 she received her doctorate from the University of La Laguna in Tenerife.

Her catalogue includes more than seventy works. Her orchestral production includes concerts for oboe, piano, percussion, guitar and timple. His music has been performed by prestigious orchestras such as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Colombia, the National Orchestra of Spain, the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra, the Extremadura Orchestra, the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra, the Córdoba Orchestra, the Oviedo Philharmonic, the Navarra Symphony Orchestra, the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, the Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra, the Canary Islands Youth Orchestra, among others, under the baton of conductors such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Michail Jurowski, Lü Jia, Pedro Halffter, Georg Fritzsch, Juanjo Mena, Antoni Ros-Marbà, François López-Ferrer, Carlos Miguel Prieto, José Luis Temes, Maxim Emelyanychev, Lucía Marín, Manuel Busto, Lucas Macías, Guillermo García Calvo, Andrés Salado, Rafael Sánchez Araña, José Luis Gómez, Luis Toro Araya, among others. She has taught at the Professional Conservatory of Music of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and at the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands. Between 2008 and 2011 she was president of the Promuscán Association of Composers and since 2011 she has been a Numerary Academician of the Royal Canary Academy of Fine Arts.
