Gaëlle Arquez
French mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez is one of the rising stars of the opera world. Nominated “Révélation Lyrique” at the “Victoires de la Musique 2011”, she made a noted debut in the title role of the new production La Belle Helene at the the Théâtre du Châtelet and is scheduled to sing the title roles of Carmen, Xerses, Pelleas et Mélisande and Armide.

After 15 years study in piano and a bachelor degree in musicology, Gaëlle Arquez graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Throughout her studies she gave various recitals worldwide, including the Teatro Marcello in Rome, the Salle Pleyel as part of the series «Prélude au Concert », the Louvre, and the Musashimo Cultural Foundation of Tokyo.

The young mezzo-soprano made her debut at the Opéra de Paris in Don Giovanni (Zerlina) under the direction of Philippe Jordan and directed by Michael Haneke. She has been invited to Opera de Lille (Massenet’s Cendrillon), again to Opera de Paris (Falstaff and L’Incoronazione di Poppea), to Oper Frankfurt (Teseo and L’Incoronazione di Poppea), to Theater an der Wien (Idomeneo), to Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (Castor et Pollux), and to the Bayerische Staatsoper (Falstaff and Così fan tutte).

More recently, she sang the role of Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) at la Monnaie and Idamante in Idomeneo under the direction of René Jacobs at Theater an der Wien, a production which will be given at the Mostly Mozart Festival New York in 2016.

In concert, Gaëlle Arquez sang the title role of Cenerentola at the Beaune Festival and the Poème de l’Amour de la Mer de Chausson under the direction of Louis Langrée at Theatre des Champs-Élysées and the Conception in L’Heure Espagnole with the Bayerische Rundfunk.

Highlights in the 2015-2016 season include her return to Opera de Paris and Frankfurt Opera for a new production Radamisto. She then made her debut at Komische Opera Berlin, “Castor et Pollux”. In October 2016, Gaëlle makes her debut at the Vienna Staatsoper under the direction of Marc Minkowski singing the title role of a new production of Gluck’s Armide.
