Info for Welcome to the Civilized World
On their fourth album Welcome to the Civilized World, Ghostwoman are sharper than ever. Hypnotic touches of psych-grunge, decaying Americana, and shredded blues instrumentals form the album’s intuitive tracklist; Evan Uschenko’s gritty guitars and growling, visceral vocals, along with Ille van Dessel’s abrasive drum beats, solidify the essence of the record. Recorded using vintage instruments and a tape machine, the album’s power and emotion are intense—reckless, illogical, and free.
There is no reason for GHOSTWOMAN’s fourth album to exist. Welcome to the Civilized World is born to a broken world; a corrupt inheritance – Evan Uschenko and Ille van Dessel are under no illusions about its futility – and yet, this thing is alive. It’s an allergic reaction to the times we are living in: a welt that screams to be itched, the purging of a modern sickness they could no longer stomach. Beyond rationality, this record came from a place of gut feeling and a lack of any other option. Hell may have cracked wide open – but GHOSTWOMAN will not go quietly.
GHOSTWOMAN itself only exists because Uschenko and van Dessel were the ones “stupid enough to commit to it.” Conceived by Uschenko after cutting his teeth as a touring multi-instrumentalist, the project was brought to life in an abandoned farmhouse in Diamond City, Alberta. There for two months, he would make the self-released, self-titled debut album which was produced and dubbed directly to custom-made cassette tapes. The music has always been beautifully inhospitable, earned only by those curious enough to seek it out.

GHOSTWOMAN
Despite ‘Hindsight Is 50/50’ being the third album from GHOSTWOMAN in 18 months, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Evan Uschenko believes that this is the first album that “finally captures the true nature of the band”. The album was recorded mostly live in three days at the analogue Kerwax studios in Brittany, France by Christophe Chavanon (The Good Damn). Uschenko states that “the first two albums were never meant to be albums: they are like pages from diaries that have long since been burned. With the introduction of Ille van Dessel as co-writer/drummer, the project feels like it has a direction”. Overall, there is a darker, denser feel compared to previous releases, but the sound and vibe of this album is more akin to what the project was supposed to be when it started in 2016, finally realising GHOSTWOMAN’s creative vision.
