Info for Live at Birds Eye
After the release of the albumD "what if" last year, there was talk of an ensemble like an organism, an exceptional album and the perfect playing of the leader. Even back then, pianist Rainer Böhm had dispensed with the wind section for three compositions during the dramaturgically cleverly linked, highly emotional sextet events, which were balanced like a dream between improvisation and composition, in order to have room for trio pieces with double bassist Arne Huber and drummer Jonas Burgwinkel.
This called for more, as this trio became the ideal band for the professor of jazz piano and ensemble conducting, who lives in Cologne and teaches in Nuremberg and Mannheim, during the preparation period for the sextet recordings. They have been companions for many years and have played and jammed together in various constellations. Then, in the early summer of 2022, the opportunity arose to perform four evenings at the bird's eye jazz club in Basel, four concerts with old and new Böhm compositions as well as a few standards, during which the band grew together, coloured the pieces differently again and again, deepened their confidence in playing together and decided to collect the best versions on an album. A stroke of luck!
