Info for Shawn Mendes
Shawn Mendes is the self-titled third studio album by Canadian singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes.
In addition to the Top 40 singles In My Blood and Lost in Japan, the album also features star-studded collaborations - Like To Be You ft. Julia Michaels, and Youth ft. Khalid.
Other songs on the 14-strong collection include Nervous, Queen and When You're Ready.
Mark Kennedy of the Associated Press gave a positive review of the album, praising Mendes' songwriting and the duet with Khalid, but was unimpressed by "Like to Be You", the duet with singer Julia Michaels and "Fallin' All in You", co-written with Ed Sheeran and Johnny McDaid. Ilana Kaplan from The Independent gave the album 4 of 5 stars, praising Mendes's maturity compared to his previous album: "With his latest effort, the 19-year-old singer moves beyond stereotypical relationship woes and goes for something more personal." Hannah Mylrea of NME also complimented Mendes's growth, calling his rock- and funk-inspired sound "a bright and bold new direction." Maeve McDermott of USA Today highlighted "In My Blood" as one of the best songs, saying the album "nails the innocence, thrills and pain that’s unique to being 19, alone and hopeful."
Jon Caramanica of The New York Times gave a mixed review, calling the album "appealing if not wholly engaging, full of pleasantly anonymous songs that systematically obscure Mr. Mendes’s talents."
Shawn Mendes
Mendes was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and was raised in Pickering, a suburb of the city. He first started posting cover videos on the popular social video app Vine in 2013 and picked up millions of views and followers in a matter of months, becoming well known for his six-second snippets of renditions of many popular songs. Artist manager Andrew Gertler discovered Mendes online in January 2014, bringing him to Island Records where he eventually signed and released his first single 'Life of the Party' in June 2014. He is the youngest artist to debut in the top 25 with a debut song on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at number 24 for the week ending July 12, 2014 at 15 years, 9 months and 24 days of age. Prior to his signing, Mendes toured as a member of the MagCon Tour alongside other young artists and social media sensations. Mendes also is currently on a nationwide tour with Austin Mahone and released his debut major label EP in July, with a debut album due out later in 2014. He won the Teen Choice award in 2014 for Webstar in Music.
