Info for Takk... (20th Anniversary Remaster)

Sigur Rós, an Icelandic band that blends Rock with classical and ambient strains formed back in 1994 in Reykjavik. With their music, they drew interest from the Sugar Cubes, who signed them to their label. By the time Takk… came around in 2005, they had the interest of not only the whole of Iceland, but also the UK, where they were gaining ground. even the US showed an interest.

To mark 20 years since its original release, Sigur Rós are reissuing their beloved album Takk_ in a freshly remastered edition that brings new depth and clarity to a modern classic.

First released in 2005, Takk_ is the album that introduced so many to the band, with singles Glósóli, Sæglópur and Hoppípolla bringing a whole new audience. Takk_ was recorded at the band's own studio, Sundlaugin, near Alafoss in the town of Mossfellbær, outside Reykjavík. The album was produced by the band with Ken Thomas, Takk being the third successive and final studio album they worked on together. This reissue has been carefully remastered by the bands long standing mastering engineer Ted Jenson at Sterling Sound. The result is a clearer, fuller sound that keeps all the warmth and magic of the original while letting the details shine through.

The album has been remastered by legendary mastering engineer Ted Jenson at Sterling Sound, who also mastered every Sigur Rós album from Takk onwards. ( ) is the only album where Jónsi sings entirely in the wordless lyrics of Hopelandic. A desire to elide meaning and allow the listener to bring their own interpretation to the music extends to each of the album’s eight songs, all of which are nameless. The record is broadly divided into two halves, divided by a critical 36 seconds of silence. The first half of the album is light and optimistic, the second half bleak and melancholic – culminating in the thundering climax of Untitled #8, the closing song of every Sigur Rós show since it was written in 2000.
