Info for Bedmonster

The music revolves around a core of heavy riffs, extensive improvisation pushed to its limits, and well-written melodies – a style labelled “POWERJAZZ”.

Based in Trondheim, Norway, I Like To Sleep is a band that feed off playing instrumental “powerjazz” with extreme improvisation, and off kilter 60’s freejazz vibes. Their vibraphone, baritone guitar and drums combination are a rare yet intriguing choice. Perhaps they pondered all elements of jazz through those cold Norwegian nights, as there are many influences here.

Amund Storløkken Åse, vibraphone
Nicolas Leirtrø, baritone guitar
Øyvind Leite, drums

I LIKE TO SLEEP
are a young and energetic power-jazz trio based in Trondheim. The trio were brought together by a common interest in modern jazz language, free improvisation and 70’s jazz/prog-rock, as well as a passion for energetic and extreme music. The product of these wide-ranging musical influences can now be experienced through the unique combination of vibraphone, baritone guitar and drums that is I LIKE TO SLEEP. They specialise in heavy riffs, extensive improvisation pushed to its limits, and well-written melodies – a style labelled “powerjazz to the people”.

I LIKE TO SLEEP released their debut LP “BEDMONSTER” on All Good Clean Records on the 6th of October 2017, and distributed via the German Stickman Records, and the Norwegian Diger Distro.

Since the beginning of I LIKE TO SLEEP in 2015, they’ve played at most jazz festivals in Norway such as Moldejazz, Jazzfest etc., and they’ve played support for bands such as Motorpsycho (two times) and soon Elephant9.

In 2018 the band managed to get to the finals in Jazzintro - “The years young norwegian jazz musician 2018”, and won the the whole thing, getting a GRAMO grant worth 150.000 NOK, as well as a Norway Tour and mentor programme worth 200.000 NOK. The jury, consisting of well-known and established musicians as Kjetil Møster, Mette Rasmussen, Ellen Andrea Wang and Jan Gunnar Hoff also said that the band has a potential to become genre-defining in the Norwegian jazz.
