Info for Bridges

What a development the oboe has had since it was mainly responsible for pastoral moods or laments! At GENUIN, Juri Vallentin captures the entire timbre of a modern instrument on a recording. The prizewinner of the 2017 German Music Competition and other major competitions demonstrates the oboe's rich tone in interaction with wonderful chamber music partners. A real bridge over the centuries: sparkling baroque music of Pez and Couperin meets exciting sounds of our days from Hosokawa or Erkoreka. An exquisite program, a world-class performance—absolutely recommendable! Juri Vallentin started his musical education early at the age of five by taking singing lessons and he switched to the oboe later on. He studied at the Nuremberg Hochschule für Musik and at the prestigious Paris Conservatoire, where he was the first external student to be directly admitted to the master’s degree program and graduated with highest honors. As a student, he was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and nowadays, he makes guest appearances as principal oboe at the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, amongst others. Since 2015, he is principal oboe of the Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover at the Hanover State Opera.

Juri Vallentin
After winning the coveted Main Prize and Audience Prize of the 2017 German Music Competition at the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Juri Vallentin secured a leading place among the young oboists of his generation. He had previously been a prizewinner at other major international competitions, including the 2015 International Oboe Competition of Japan (Sony) and 2016 International Muri Competition (Switzerland).

He performs as a soloist with orchestras in Germany and abroad and also appears as a chamber musician at leading festivals such as the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele and Davos Festival. Several radio productions bear witness to the scope of his artistic activity.

Vallentin began his musical training with voice lessons before later switching to the oboe. He studied in Nuremberg and at the renowned Conservatoire de Paris, where he graduated with highest honors. He holds a position as principal oboist with the Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover and makes guest appearances with such major orchestras as the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester and Bayerisches Staatsorchester München.
