With the new album "Discovery", Sandro Roy has apparently found his artistic direction, because on the one hand he presents a permanent line-up for the first time, the Sandro Roy Unity Band, and on the other hand he also shows here and there that he is a welcome partner in the studio for musical top-class musicians such as Bireli Lagrene, Jermaine Landsberger, David Gazarov or Martin Taylor. His Unity Band, with Boris Netsvetaev on piano, guitarist Sven Jungbeck and Stefan Berger on double bass, lays a carpet of sound for the virtuoso, drawing equally from sources of classical music and jazz, and turning his music into an independent and virtuoso cosmos, and all this on what is perhaps the most difficult instrument of all, the violin.

In "BayerKultur Swing", one of Sandro Roy's five original compositions, he pays homage to a supporter in the best Gypsy Swing tradition, while "Waltz For Prinzo", dedicated to a family member, presents classical borrowings and virtuoso swing moments.

But just as in his live concerts, jack-of-all-trades Sandro Roy presents a bouquet of musical surprises on "Discovery". For example, the British world-class guitarist Martin Taylor, formerly in Stephane Grappelli's band, meets the violinist on "True" in a ballad full of poetry, while jazz pianist Jerome Landsberger makes Sandro Roy's title track "Discovery" sparkle with him in a decidedly modern jazz tradition.

David Gazarov, who has already appeared on SKIP with his own albums, makes the Django Reinhardt piece "Place De Brouckere" sound almost like a monk, and the encounters with the legendary Bireli Lagrene on guitar are highlights, Be it the Hoagy Carmichael ballad "The Nearness Of You", the Stevie Wonder evergreen "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life" or "Dinelo", in which Sandro Roy and his Unity Band present the Di Piazza classic with Bireli Lagrene in a sensitive but always modern way.

And of course, his long-time accompanist Jerome Weiss on piano must not be missing, who reveals perhaps the most classical approach to Sandro Roy in the Henry Mancini composition "Sabrina". This represents the range of the most diverse constellations currently offered by Sandro Roy. Sandro Roy will continue to expand his audience in duo, trio, quartet, with orchestras and as a virtuoso soloist; one can be curious to see which ensembles he has in store for his audience at the festivals and in the clubs.

Der Geiger Sandro Roy wurde 1994 als jüngstes Mitglied einer Sinti Familie geboren, aus der schon einige Kapellmeister hervorgegangen sind. Sein Großonkel Joseph Roy war Tutti Geiger bei den Wiener Philarmonikern. Mit 7 Jahren erhielt er seinen ersten Geigenunterricht bei Harald Christian in Augsburg. Mit 13 Jahren wurde er Bundespreisträger beim Wettbewerb "Jugend musiziert". Es folgten noch weitere 1. Preise in der Kategorie Duo. Ab seinem 15. Lebensjahr wurde Sandro Roy Schüler von Prof. Jens Ellermann in München u.a. Lehrer von Nigel Kennedy, Gil Shaham, Midori. Weitere Inspirationen erhielt er durch internationale Meisterkurse bei Igor Ozim (Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg), Benjamin Schmid (Bern) Christian Altenburger (Wien), Petru Munteanu (Lichtenberg). Er spielte als Solist mit dem Amalien Kammerorchester München und dem Universitäts Orchester Augsburg.

2011 wurde er Kunstförder-Sonderpreisträger der Stadt Augsburg.

Auch im Bereich „Jazz“ ist der tätig und durfte mit diversen Jazzgrößen wie Bireli Lagrene zusammenarbeiten.

2014 wurde er mit den „Förderpreis für die junge Generation“ des Rotary-Clubs Augsburg-Fuggerstadt ausgezeichnet.

In der Saison 2015 veröffentlichte Sandro Roy sein Debüt Album „WHERE I COME FROM“ / Skip Records Hamburg, dass vom KulturSPIEGEL mit lobenden Worten beschrieben wurde: „Großartiger Start eines Supertalents“

Weitere erfolgreiche Stationen waren das Rheingau Musik Festival, Deutsches Mozartfest Augsburg (als Solist mit dem Augsburger Kammerorchester und dem Mozart A-Dur Violinkonzert), das St. Ingbert International Jazzfestival an der Seite von Bireli Lagrene und Roby Lakatos, Elbinsel Gypsy Festival Hamburg und eine Konzertreise in die USA zum „Django in June“ Festival Northampton, nähe Boston.

Sandro Roy erhält 2015 den Jazzförderpreis der renommierten Münchner Konzertgesellschaft. Der Preis wird ihm überreicht von Karl Friedrich Fürst von Hohenzollern im Prinzregententheater München.

Auftritte beim Bundespräsidenten Joachim Gauck auf Schloss Bellevue Berlin, Live TV Auftritt im ZDF Morgenmagazin und Konzert als Solist mit dem RTV Symphony Orchestra Slowenien bildeten die Schlussphase der Saison 2015.

Schon bald darf sich Sandro Roy auf die Veröffentlichung seines zweiten Albums freuen,

dass u. a. in Paris aufgenommen wurde und worauf er mit Star-Solisten wie Roby Lakatos, Marcel Löffler und dem Jermaine Landsberger Trio zu hören ist.

In der Saison 2017 / 2018 gibt Sandro Roy sein solistisches Debüt bei der

"Deutschen Kammerphilarmonie Bremen" unter der Leitung von Enrique Ugarte bei der

Open Air Konzertreihe "Sommer in Lesmona 2017".

Zurzeit studiert er bei Prof. Linus Roth (Echo Klassik Preisträger) am Leopold Mozart Zentrum der Universität Augsburg.
