Info for Projekt Drums Vol. 2
Petter Eldh returns with vol. 2 of his adventurous Projekt Drums series – an ongoing deep dive into rhythm, production, and collaboration. Building on the momentum of Volume 1, this new release pushes genre boundaries even further, driven by Eldh’s unmistakable energy and playful complexity.
The restless and visionary Swedish producer and bassist Petter Eldh – one of the most vital and sought-after voices in European jazz and experimental beat music – returns with Projekt Drums vol. 2, a high-definition evolution of his detailed beatcraft. Highly acclaimed for his prolific work with Django Bates, Jameszoo, Kit Downes and others, Eldh assembles a powerhouse trio of drummers – James Maddren, Savannah Harris, and Richard Spaven – to push his rhythmic world further. The result is a dense, pulse-driven record shaped by low-end design, breakbeats, and interwoven melodic fragments.
At its core, this is a breakbeat record – stretched, twisted, and reimagined. Influences run deep from the beat-science of J Dilla, Madlib, and Flying Lotus to the drum’n’bass architecture of Roni Size and Squarepusher. Projekt Drums, vol. 2 draws equally from hip hop’s swing, jungle’s velocity, and the jagged edges of experimental jazz. The album is built on circular logic – in the grooves, the sequencing, and the loops.

Petter Eldh
was obsessed with Jazz, Classical, Soul, Reggae, Swedish folk music, Middle-Eastern and Hip Hop at an early age and collected vinyl since the age of 7. He initially played the guitar before switching to what became his primary instrument, the double bass. Early influences such as Charles Mingus, Anders Jormin, Charlie Haden, Charlie Parker, A Tribe Called Quest, Monica Zetterlund, Samla Mammas Manna, Aretha Franklin and Earth Wind & Fire have guided his diverse output as a musician.
Long-standing collaborations include the following erratic and progressive forces:
Django Bates Beloved (ECM records), Enemy (Kit Downes/James Maddren), Jameszoo, Lucia Cadotsch Speak Low, Hayden Chisholm, Gard Nilssen, Peter Bruun, Christian Lillinger, Benoit Delbecq and Kaja Draksler. As a producer he has remixed work by Jameszoo – Flake (Brainfeeder), Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra – Vula (Afterhours), Speak Low (Enja) and releases his own music on his own imprint Galatea Records and the Finnish label WeJazz Records where he put out his recent album “Koma Saxo” featuring the ingenious saxophonists Otis Sandsjö, Mikko Innanen and Jonas Kullhammar.
