Info for Night Trippin'

On his new album "Night Trippin' (Tribute to Dr. John)", singer and Parisian-by-choice Hugh Coltman joins guitarist Matthis Pascaud for a joint tribute to the legendary jazz, blues and rock 'n' roll singer Dr. John. The American musician and six-time Grammy Award winner was considered the most important and almost the only representative of "Voodoo Rock" and was strongly influenced by the folklore of his hometown New Orleans.Together, Coltman and Pascaud explore the works of the early Sixties period of the legendary pianist and singer from Louisiana. With "Night Trippin'" they dive deep into the world of voodoo blues and reach the roots of jazz and rock. The album is a tribute by two connoisseurs and admirers of the New Orleans sound and its traditions, and is intended as a final "Thank you!" to one of its most important icons. You will hardly hear Dr. John and his works more authentically in the future than on "Night Trippin'" by Matthis Pascaud and Hugh Coltman.A former member of The Hoax and Heez Bus, Hugh Coltman has been performing as a solo artist since his album "Stories from the Safe House" (2008). His music is a mixture of jazz, blues and soul. He has already released two albums on Sony Masterworks: "Shadows" (2015), a tribute to Nat King Cole", and "Who's Happy‾" (2018), inspired by the big band atmosphere in New Orleans.

Matthis Pascaud
is an artist who captivates with daring and at the same time topical compositions: his guitar playing combines his two main influences: Rock with its distinctive sound and Jazz for improvisation. His music, described as "progressive jazz", breaks all stylistic boundaries. Since 2015 he has been playing with his own band Square One together with saxophonist Christophe Panzani, bassist Pierre Elgrishi and drummer Karl Jannuska. In 2018, they not only won the prestigious Concours National of the La Défense Jazz Festival, but also the hearts of the press.

Hugh Coltman
was once the head of the up-and-coming English blues rock band The Hoax. When the success eventually broke off, he suddenly found himself as a street musician in Paris. Today, he lives firmly in the French metropolis and was awarded Singer of the Year at the Victoires du Jazz 2017 for his homage Shadows - Songs of Nat King Cole. With the follow-up project Who's Happy?, the probably most French of all British singers explored the colourful and multi-faceted sound of New Orleans jazz, discovering "the nonchalance of jazz musicians who are more rock'n'roll than many rock musicians".
