Info for The Phoenix
Chester Bennington's early band will be releasing a new 10-song collection on June 17, with drummer and songwriter Sean Dowdell explaining: “Amends was more emotional and reflective. We felt sad when we were writing it. Now that we’re a couple of years removed, it’s very clear what we were going through. We were at a different stage of grief. We went through the shock and the sadness. Now, we’re back to gratitude. So, The Phoenix is more of a celebration of our friend, his talent, and the music. It captures Chester’s angst and energy that people fell in love with. It’s much more aggressive. If you love Chester’s scream, you’ll love this record.”
Before Chester Bennington sang, screamed, and serenaded audiences of millions throughout his storied career in Linkin Park (and other projects), the frontman cut his teeth from 1993 to 1998 in his first proper band: Grey Daze. Working with producer Esjay Jones at LA’s iconic Sunset Sound Studios, the band really focused on being true to the group’s original sound and all of their ‘90s influences. The Phoenix marks the creative completion of their mission to fulfill Chester’s dream.
Prior to his untimely passing, Chester personally announced a 2017 Grey Daze reunion on social media. As he never got the chance to launch the reunion himself, his bandmates, friends, family, and various collaborators stepped up to give the music the second chance it deserved, finishing what the late singer started. The musicians—longtime members Sean Dowdell [drums, backing vocals] and Mace Beyers [bass] as well as Cristin Davis [guitar] recruited in 2017 to tackle this artistic and personal endeavor. A follow up to their critically praised and fan beloved 2020 album “Amends”, this next chapter of music is the completion of their commitment to friendship. For “The Phoenix” the band teamed up with producer Esjay Jones and did a lot of the recording in LA at the iconic Sunset Sound Studios. With this album Esjay and the band really focused on being true to the group's original sound and all their 90s influences. This album continues their mission to tell Chester Bennington's story and also celebrate the amazing artist and person he was. Early song standouts are Saturation, Starting To Fly, Drag, and Anything Anything.

Grey Daze
is Chester Bennington, Sean Dowdell, Mace Beyers, & Cristin Davis. The band broke up in 1998 & Chester went on to Linkin Park fame.
In 2017, the Chester & Sean announced it's reunion & started recording a new album.
Formed in 1993 in Phoenix, Arizona by Sean Dowdell, Jonathan Krause, Steve Mitchell and Chester Bennington, Grey Daze underwent several line-up changes over the subsequent years and, once the band's lead singer Chester Bennington and then-current bassist Mace Beyers had decided to leave the band around late-1998, formed into a completely different band.
Grey Daze released 2 full length records: "Wake Me" in 1994 (Chester Bennington, Sean Dowdell, Jason Barnes and Jonathan Krause) and "...No Sun Today" in 1997 (Chester Bennington, Sean Dowdell, Bobby Benish and Mace Beyers), both of which were a local success.
This album contains no booklet.
