Comin' On with the Chet Baker Quintet is an album by trumpeter Chet Baker which was recorded in 1965.

When Chet Baker recorded material for five albums during a marathon session in 1965 (see my review of Smokin' With the Chet Baker Quintet for the full story behind them), there was bound to be some amount of filler among the 32 tracks recorded, and it surfaces on this, the third album to be released (in early 1967). After having listened to the first two albums, you may now also notice that producer Richard Carpenter sequenced each album according to the same pattern, which means that things are beginning to sound repetitive by now.

This, and the lack of standout tracks on this album turns Comin' On into a highly unremarkable album. It's not bad, but the delivery is very matter-of-fact and the solos could be more inspired. Also, the musicians are sounding somewhat tired - maybe this is material from late in the session? The flügelhorn sounds oddly restrained and subdued. No real highlights here, which makes this a rather non-essential item in the Baker discography, and certainly one of the five Prestige albums that you can do without.
