Info for Couperin: Pièces de clavecin, Troisième Livre
Time passes and the harpsichordist Blandine Verlet’s witty imagination doesn’t fade. Regularly rewarded for her legendary records, she releases for the second time pieces of her beloved Couperin: the 13th and 18th so called “ordres” of the Third Book. Known for her unique interpretations, Blandine Verlet’s tempi are sometimes voluntarily slower than prescribed but they are never heavy because she is animated by a strong and lively breath. At the harpsichord, she is carried by her writer’s delicate sensitivity. The noble programme and a text of lyrical prose of her own match harmoniously in this CD book. Such as in her subtle narratives, Blandine Verlet’s interpretations give a large place to the imaginary. The fantasy of her musical self is never erased in the name of an abstract idea of the work: the life of the score mingles with that of its interpreter.
Blandine Verlet, harpsichord
Blandine Verlet
a noted French harpsichordist, studied with Ruggiero Gerlin and Ralph Kirkpatrick. She began recording in the late 1970s for Philips, switching to the Astree label in the 1990s. Her recordings range from J.S. Bach's keyboard works to Froberger to lesser known composers such as Louis Couperin and Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre. Her second recording of the Goldberg Variations, in 1992, has been called "one of the finest harpsichord versions in the catalog." With violinist Gerard Poulet she has recorded early violin sonatas by Mozart, using the older Baroque keyboard instruments rather than a fortepiano or modern piano. Verlet has also worked with flutist Stephen Preston and viola da gambist Jordi Savall. Her playing is noted for her control and restraint in not letting emotion carry her away.
