In her debut CD, the soprano portrays a day from morning to evening, spanning the centuries. She combines works by Tarquinio Merula from 1638 with Claude Debussy and four works by Lorenzo Romano and Aigerim Seilova from 2019—all world premiere recordings! Dreamy soundscapes and expressive dramaticism, a cappella singing and accompaniment by electronic instruments: in this conceptual album, Pia Davila places herself in the service of the poetic idea, borne by her extraordinary and intense soprano voice.

Pia Davila
is a versatile singer committed not only to the classical repertoire but also to contemporary music and modern art forms of music theater. The selection of works on her debut CD illustrates the range of repertoire she particularly enjoys: modern pieces, old Italian masters and works from the Impressionist period.

The soprano is equally at home in opera, oratorio and song. Within a short period of time, she made a name for herself in notable productions. Highlights among these include the world premiere of Ein Geschäft mit Träumen at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2020 and Aus Licht at the Dutch National Opera, Amsterdam, directed by Pierre Audi in 2019. Pia Davila also appeared in productions at the Theater Bremen, the Hamburg State Opera and the Theater Osnabrück. She enjoys a longstanding collaboration with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

Pia Davila maintains a close association with numerous composers and commissions compositions. In addition, she is particularly keen on engaging with directors and musi-cians in the realization of new and innovative projects. In 2016 and 2018, she worked on the guest students’ program for refugees at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg For this she was awarded a scholarship and received an invitation to the Federal President’s 2019 New Year’s Eve reception at the Bellevue Palace.

Born in Berlin in 1988, she studied guitar at the Julius-Stern-Institut of the Berlin University of the Arts before deciding on a degree in vocal performance. In 2018 Pia Davila completed her postgraduate studies under Jörn Dopfer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. She was mentored by Christiane Oelze from 2015 to 2020. Pia Davila was a grant recipient of the Claussen-Simon-Stiftung stART.up program from 2017 to 2019.

Eric Schneider
Hailing from the Bergisches Land near Cologne, Eric Schneider studied piano and mathematics. At the age of twenty-two he earned his piano solo concert diploma at the Cologne University of Music with distinction. Following his first competition successes and piano solo performances, he discovered his enthusiasm for Lieder and chamber music. Eric Schneider pursued studies in Lied accompaniment with Hartmut Höll and also received decisive influences from Paul Badura-Skoda, Alfred Brendel, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

He expresses special gratitude to Elisabeth Schwarzkopf for her profound teaching of musical style. In addition, he studied orchestral conducting under Rolf Reuter in Berlin. Eric Schneider has established longtime collaborations with such singers as Christiane Oelze, Christine Schäfer, Anna Prohaska, and Matthias Goerne. He performs all over the world in prestigious concert venues, and his CD releases in recent years have included—among many others—Winterreise and Apparition with Christine Schäfer, Die schöne Müllerin and Wanderers Nachtlied with Matthias Goerne, and Sirène and Behind the Lines with Anna Prohaska.

As a solo pianist, Eric Schneider has performed notable recitals at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Kissinger Sommer, Beethoven Festival Bonn, and Ruhr Piano Festival. His most recent CD features works by Leoš Janáček, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Robert Schumann. Eric Schneider resides in Berlin and teaches Lied repertoire at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Andreas Nachtsheim
has his musical roots in rock music; yet even in his youth—initially on a self-made lute—he pursued his fondness for renaissance and baroque music. Eventually, he decided to devote himself entirely to this part of music history and studied lute and continuo as well as musicology. He has toured with the violinist Nigel Kennedy and played with exceptional musicians such as Philippe Jaroussky and Giuliano Carmignola.

A particularly intense and now longstanding relationship has developed with the Lautten Compagney Berlin and its director Wolfgang Katschner. In addition, he particularly enjoys playing continuo in baroque opera productions at various theaters from Hanover to Basel and Aachen to Berlin.
