Info for Trouble In Paradise

In the depths of an Australian winter, Love Police Records & Tapes released Melbourne troubadour Alex Hamilton’s “Trouble In Paradise”, a fireside feast of heartwarming songs and stories.

Loved by the Melbourne music mafia, and renowned around the musical traps and studios of Victoria, Alex Hamilton is a poet, seamless songwriter and artistic collaborator with musical bonds with the best from Neil to Bob, Joni to Townes and most of all, George Jones.

Trouble In Paradise is Alex Hamilton’s second album, following on from the success of his debut Sweetest Wine (Love Police Records & Tapes 2020) which saw the artist break out from regular touring and band sharing to solo artist in his own right.

Key tracks, Beneath The Light Of The Moon and To Win, highlight Hamilton’s Dylan-esque traits of clever writing and gentle storytelling that leave you with a feeling of nostalgia and hope.

Growing up behind St Kilda’s iconic Espy, music has been in Hamilton’s bloodstream from the beginning. With a sneaky backstage view of Melbourne’s best stages to sharing the stages with his Melbourne friends Courtney Barnett, Grace Cummings and the Merri Creek Pickers, Hamilton’s distinct folky-country-rocky sound has emerged over the years through countless moments of inspiration.

Visions of suede and whiskey come to mind where you hear Hamilton’s timeless sound, with influences reaching to the heroes of the ‘70s and the kings and queens of country. Whether alone or in the company of his band, Hamilton’s poetry finds its way to the soul.

The musician has traded in bells and whistles for an honest melody, creating a world where poetic introspection walks hand-in-hand with climactic choruses that demand to be sung.

On “Trouble In Paradise” Alex brings in his key collaborators including engineer/producer Jesse Williams (Leah Senior, Grace Cummings) who also plays drums, guitar, piano, organ, percussion and harmony vocals. Guest vocalist Leah Senior and key players Pete Convery (bass), Cahill Kelly (guitar), Kat Mear (violin) come into play, with the whole album mastered by Casey Hartnett and recorded at Jesse Williams’ studio in Anglesea, along the surf coast of Victoria.
