Info for Poetical Humors

Unexpected? The pairing of viola da gamba and accordion is certainly that! But perhaps even more surprising is how well the singing strings of the veteran instrument harmonize with the subtlyvibrating reeds of the centuries-younger newcomer.

Also unexpected is this cross-generational meeting of two musicians (what are the odds?) who found each other exploring the ‘poetical humours’ of early-Seventeenth-century England.

Recently reunited in the recording studio after several seasons of rapturously received recitals, with this well-timed album the duo Les inAttendus makes its first entry into the harmonia mundi catalogue.

Vincent Lhermet, accordion
Les inAttendus
Marianne Muller, direction

Vincent Lhermet

He graduated from the Sibelius Academy (class of Matti Rantanen), the Paris Conservatoire CNSMDP and the Paris-Sorbonne University. A laureate of the Arrasate-Hiria international competition, and finalist at the Gaudeamus Interpreters competition in Amsterdam, he is the first accordionist in France to have ever completed a PhD in Music Performance, with a research on the Accordion contemporary repertoire in Europe since 1990 under the supervision of Laurent Cugny and Bruno Mantovani.

He has performed at such festivals as Printemps des Arts de Monte Carlo, Festival d’Art lyrique d’Aix en Provence, Festival de Musica de Camara d’Aguascalientes, Musica Nova, Musiques Démesurées, Rencontres Contemporaines, le Printemps des Arts de Monte Carlo, le Festival Radio-France de Montpellier, le Festival des Forêts, Schwetzinger Festspiele, alongside percussionist Brian Archinal, violist Gérard Caussé, viola da gamba performer Marianne Muller, clarinettist Michel Portal, cymbalist Françoise Rivalland among many others. Vincent Lhermet has premiered more than fifty works by composers from around the world, including Franck Bedrossian, Tomas Bordalejo, Bernard Cavanna, Frédéric Durieux, Francesco Filidei, Philippe Hersant, Martin Iddon, Martin Matalon, Florent Motsch, François Narboni, Annette Schlünz, Miroslav Srnka, Jorge Torres Saenz, Jukka Tiensuu with prestigious ensembles and orchestras such as Orchestre d’Auvergne, Orchesta Sinfonica de la Universidad de Guanajuato, Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, Secession orchestra, Ensemble Court-Circuit, conducted by Charles Barbier, Guillaume Bourgogne, Jean Deroyer, Roberto Fores-Veses, Clément Mao-Takacs, Pierre-André Valade.

Several of his concerts have been recorded and broadcasted by the Finnish National Broadcasting Corporation (YLE), the SWR, the national portuguese Radio and France Musique.

Pursuant to his debut recording Correspondances (2014), Rameau, yesterday and today (2015) and 13 créations pour un Festival (2017), a recording of his gamba-accordion duo with Marianne Muller will be released in September 2018 under the famous Harmonia Mundi label.
