Info for The Labyrinth Garden
The Turku Jazz Orchestra once again features Finland's leading musicians. In the album's title track, The Labyrinth Garden, trombonist Kasperi Sarikoski carries the main theme through a labyrinthine garden, and in the middle of the piece, a landscape improvised by pianist Artturi Röngä opens up, where time stops before returning to the narrow alleys. Other highlights of the album include Distant Blue and Voyagers, starring saxophonist Max Zenger, and The Tide Turns, which won an award at the Jazz Comp Graz competition. The ensemble, led by Lyysaari, is his third collaboration with the orchestra – but the first in which the composer himself acts as conductor. In addition, the anniversary concert will feature a new premiere work, which is part of the Jazz Suomi 100 anniversary program. The Labyrinth Garden is a lively, multi-layered weave, where rhythm, color and form find each other through the means of unique new big band music.
