Info for Retrospective

Retrospective is a best-of album that draws its material from singer Christy Baron's three previous Chesky sets: I Thought About You, Steppin', and Take This Journey. Unfortunately the packaging of this album does not bother including a list of the personnel; however the selections are well chosen and they feature Baron at her best. In addition to modernized versions of a few standards, she turns a variety of pop and rock tunes into jazz, ranging from the Beatles' "Got to Get You Into My Life" to songs by Carole King, Peter Gabriel, and Stevie Wonder. The backup groups are excellent, Baron has an attractive voice, and there are enough subtle surprises throughout this sampler to make one desire to hear her three previous albums in full.

"Christy's clarity and crisp tonal quality is most certainly the icing on the cake. Her beautiful vocals take center stage and Chesky's continued first class production magnifies Christy's talents. This talented singer has brought out the best in jazz standards, and has definitely raised the bar." (musicaldiscoveries.com) Christy Baron, Gesang

Christy Baron
A dynamic performer with an entrancing voice, Christy Baron was raised in Pittsburgh. She has not only been singing and performing in New York City since 1984, but she is also an accomplished actress, having appeared on Broadway, television and in independent films. Baron started as a cabaret singer and pianist while studying music at Carnegie-Mellon University. When she moved to New York, she began working in piano bars but soon became sidetracked from cabaret singing by acting jobs and singing commercial jingles. Baron has since performed with such artists as Natalie Cole, Phoebe Snow, Melba Moore, Carly Simon, Dr. John and David Sanborn.
