Info for Local Valley (Deluxe)
Few artists have managed to become as celebrated worldwide for their soft tones as José González. His voice seems to be out of this world, at least it is continentless, because the Swede sings in Spanish and English. Moreover, it has a non-definable aggregate state, a pleasant intangibility, which is like a flight of fancy with every new song, also because José uses it in different ways.
José González's stellar career can only be described as dreamlike. His classic rendition of The Knife's "Heartbeats" jump-started his career, which has since brought him more than 1 billion streams, over 150 licensed TV, film and video game uses and a huge presence on radio stations around the globe. He has won row upon row of awards, appeared on high-profile television shows, headlined prestigious festivals, played sold-out concert halls on every continent and collaborated with Ben Stiller on an original film soundtrack for 'The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty'. González's warm, intimate voice and delicate harmonies, underscored by a deftly plucked Spanish guitar and muted percussion, deliver deeply thoughtful lyrics that largely revolve around ideas of civilisation, humanism and solidarity. José González is a sincere, artful artist whose unique approach to songwriting and sound sets him worlds apart from the crowd - he's in a class of his own. And we here at City Slang are, in a word, simply: grateful!
Recorded in the Koltrast Hakefjorden studio that José set up in his family's summer house north of Gothenburg, "Local Valley" is "a natural continuation of the styles I've been adding through the years both solo and with Junip", says José. At the same time, this is the first time José sings in all three languages he speaks, making the music more connected to his distinct heritage and the world around him than ever before. "I set out to write songs in the same vein as my old ones: short, melodic and rhythmical. It's more outward looking than my earlier works, but no less personal. On the contrary, I feel more comfortable than ever saying that this album reflects me and my thoughts right now."
"Local Valley" is a welcome reminder of the Gothenburg, Sweden-based artist's understated appeal and unique ability to communicate in a discreet way. These thirteen thought-provoking, meticulously crafted songs sound as characteristically confident and rich in captivating detail as anything in his canon to date. When he's not making music, he's exploring themes of effective altruism, secular humanism and eco-modernism.

Ende September 2007 erschien sein aktuelles Album In Our Nature.
