is iconic in the Australian independent music scene for both the music and the moves she’s made. For the last few years she’s managed the DIY label Milk! Records, which she co-founded with her wife and bandmate Courtney Barnett, and leads workshops around the country where she teaches artists to build independent careers on their own terms. She is also an activist around artist rights, and an outspoken queer-feminist voice within Australian music. She released her latest self-titled album in 2017. In the last few years she’s been periodically touring stateside; this interview was conducted before her recent sold-out show at the Empty Bottle in Chicago.
