Die Metal Pioniere aus Massachusetts haben sich für ihr sechstes Studioalbum wieder mit ihrem alten Sänger Jesse Leach zusammengetan. Fans lieben Jesse nach wie vor für seine Performance auf dem 2002er Erfolgsalbum "Alive Or Just Breathing", das so elementar wichtig für die Band und ihre weitere Karriere war. Würde man aktuell eine Umfrage unter Killswitch Engage Fans darüber starten, welches Album ihr Favorit ist, wäre "Alive Or Just Breathing" sicherlich ganz oben auf dieser Liste.

Alle Beteiligten sind jedenfalls begeistert über Jesse’s Rückkehr zu seiner alten Crew – von den Bandmitgliedern selbst, bis hin zu den Fans.

Zuvor hatte die Band knapp ein Jahrzehnt lang Erfolge mit Jesse’s damaligem Nachfolger Howard Jones gefeiert, bevor dieser die Formation nun in aller Freundschaft wieder verließ.

Killswitch Engage sind mit "Alive Or Just Breathing" damals in der Szene eingeschlagen wie eine Bombe, haben dann 2004 mit "The End of Heartache" in den Staaten Goldstatus erreicht und 2005 für den Titeltrack des Albums auch noch eine Grammy Nominierung eingeheimst. Das nächste Album "As Daylight Dies" erreichte ebenfalls Gold in den USA. Neben Coverstories auf unzähligen Metal- und Rock-Magazinen weltweit sind sie u.a. auch bei Jimmy Kimmel Live aufgetreten.

Über all die Jahre hinweg sind Killswitch Engage zudem quasi nonstop getourt, spielten z.B. mehrfach das Ozzfest, die Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos und natürlich hierzulande auch Rock am Ring/Rock im Park. Außerdem haben Killswitch auf mehreren erfolgreichen Tourneen bewiesen, wie mühelos man doch die Grenze zwischen Metal und Alternative überschreiten kann: Sie spielten u.a. sowohl mit Slayer und Mastodon, als auch mit My Chemical Romance und Underoath.

Nun, da Jesse wieder ans Mikro zurückgekehrt ist und sich die gesamte Band neue gemeinsame Ziele gesteckt hat, ist das, was einst schon der Vergangenheit angehörte, plötzlich wieder brandaktuell.

We never consciously went out of our way to be different, guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz says from the band's home base in Westfield, Massachusetts. When we started this band, we just wanted to play cool riffs and scream and sing. In hindsight, the potential for crossover success was there as early as 1998, when, after the breakup of his influential genre-crossing metal/hardcore unit Overcast, bassist Mike D'Antonio teamed up with Aftershock members Dutkiewicz (then on drums) and guitarist Joel Stroetzel, and singer Jesse Leach to form the earliest …
