Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ)
Jackson Browne
Since the 1980s, Browne has lent his music to support several causes including the Children’s Defense Fund, Amnesty International, Farm Aid, post-Somoza revolutionary Nicaragua, the Christic Institute and Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit.

Browne has linked a 40-year music career with his deep commitment to social and environmental justice. The singer-somgwriter co-founded Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE), Nukefree.org and the Success Through the Arts Foundation, which provides learning opportunities for students in South Central Los Angeles. According to a fellow environmental humanitarian, Ed Begley Jr., Browne’s ranch operates entirely independent of traditional electric power sources by utilizing only wind and solar energy.

Held annually during the Toronto Film Festival, the Peace and Justice Activism Award honors exceptional artists for their lifetime of service while fundraising for APJ’s ongoing civic development efforts in Haiti. Previous award recipients include Sean Penn and 2017 Gala attendee, Susan Sarandon. Notable guests at this year’s celebration included Ben Stiller, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Morgan Spurlock.
