Mit ihrem 2ten Album untermauert die Band aus Chicago ihren Ruf als einer der heissesten Acts in den Spurrillen eines Gitarren-Pop, der gerne new wave-infiziert daher und dabei auch eine gewaltige Früh-00er-Jahre-Energie erzeugen kann ("Slumber Party"). Extraordinär ist dabei auch wieder die unverkennbare Stimme und der emotional aufgeladene Input der immer wieder ein wenig an Morrissey erinnernden Stimme von Sänger Leavins, die aber voller klingt und eine größere Bandbreite abdeckt. Dabei exerziert die Band eine Bandbreite von druckvollen Songs mit leicht post-punkigen Gitarren und treibender Energie bis hin zu Midtempo-Songs voller Elegie, bei denen die eindringliche Stimm-Kraft noch mehr zum Tragen kommt. Bei Songs wie "There always" mit eingängigem, hymnischem Refrain nähern sie sich britischen Bands wie The Smiths an. Der Fokus der Texte liegt auf Themen wie Vergänglichkeit, emotionaler Abhängigkeit und dem Akzeptieren dessen, was sich nicht rückgängig machen lässt.

Dave Cobb-Brigitte Calls Me Baby possess a singular musicality informed by Leavins’ eclectic upbringing. Originally from the Southeast Texas town of Port Arthur, he grew up listening to Roy Orbison records at his grandparents’ house next door, while his parents played him new-wave bands like The Cars and his friends turned him onto Radiohead and The Strokes. At age 13, Leavins took up guitar and began writing songs of his own, quickly discovering his distinct vocal style. “At first I didn’t like the way I sang and couldn’t really do anything about it, but as I got older I started to appreciate it more,” he reveals.

Newly signed to ATO Records after a much-buzzed-about set at SXSW 2023, with their full-length debut due out in 2024, Brigitte Calls Me Baby remain intent on striking a balance between refined musicianship and absolute devotion to emotional truth.
