Info zu ND Story
The ultimate chemical reaction between "rock & jazz" roots of Muzuki Kinugi and "classical & contemporary music" roots of Daisuke Suzuki. 15 Fruits, the culmination of 17 years of The DUO.
The DUO has been active for 17 years now. In fact, The DUO is a unit that was born out of a kind of project, and when it was first formed it performed Jazz, Rock, children's songs and shoka covers as the core of its repertoire, and even Piazzolla's tango suite, but gradually began to perform its own original music. ... We made several albums and played many gigs, exchanging and absorbing each other's knowledge of guitars and music, and before we knew it, we had accumulated in our bodies ensemble skills and a unique sense of musical values that could only be achieved by the two of us, Oninomugetsu and Daisuke Suzuki.
I, Kinumugi, am a guitarist with roots in British rock and hard jazz rock from the 1970s, and the roots of the ideas for the songs I write lie there, no matter how far I go. He is struggling to create even a single sound that people have not yet heard. Daisuke Suzuki, on the other hand, combines his roots in classical and contemporary music, as well as the melodic sense he has acquired from the Jazz and Rock music he has listened to since his youth, with his own inquisitive mind and a sense of harmony that comes from his own deep-seated brightness, to produce beautiful and mysterious songs. The Duo's music is the result of their experience, knowledge, love of music and a little bit of mischievousness.
I hope many people will listen to this album, which is full of pure love of music, a sense of adventure and a spirit of exploration.
It was around 2007. Several of the producers around me who had given me advice from time to time suggested that Daisuke-kun should try playing together with Kinu-kun, and so a chance to perform together was created, forming ‘The DUO’, an exuberant unit in both name and reality. The unit was formed.
As someone who had been mainly active in contemporary and classical music, I had played in sessions with people from different categories such as jazz and tango at special events and programmes, but to throw myself into an ad-lib exchange of phrases in a permanent unit might have seemed reckless to those around me. However, the man I met as a partner, Mr Kinumugi, was as awesome as his name (or kanji?) might suggest. He led me from a cocky and boisterous person to a daily routine of sessions and live performances.
And countless live performances, all of which took place every year in the beginning, led to the creation of a body of work and performances in which we read each other's playing and supported each other in our game. The unexpected and wonderful surprises that the encounter and maturation of chemistry with the completely opposite personality of Kinu has brought to my life have brought unexpected fertility and colour to the lives of everyone who listens to The DUO and to our lives, sparking every day up to the present. I think that everything that has happened so far has come to fruition. And all of this has come to fruition in the form of today's harvest. Here, 15 original compositions, including a newly written piece - the DUO's first hall recording - are documented through 17 years of careful preparation and spurts of improvisation.
