Info for My Old Flame

Ole Amund Gjersvik is a well-known name in Bergen's jazz life and has participated in a number of recordings, many of them released on Gjersvik's own record label Acoustic Records. Outside the city limits, Tore Hegdahl is probably a more indescribable magazine, but he is a cantor in Årstad church and takes care of church music on a daily basis. In addition to being an organist and choir conductor, he is also a fine accompanist in several genres.

The duo have collaborated for a number of years and in 2019 released the studio recording «Goodbye». Last year, two albums were released with concert recordings from various churches in Bergen. The concept is largely the same for all releases - the repertoire here is taken from different composers, genres and eras. In addition, both contributed their own songs. All music goes at a ballad pace. There is some danger of silence and thoughtfulness over the expression.

As the record title indicates, Arthur Johnston's classic from 1934 is included. It is also Portugal's winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017 "Amar pelos dois" written by Luísa Sobral and Henry Purcell's famous aria from the opera "Dido and Aeneas"; a wide variety, m.a.o. What unites the selection is the contemplative mood.

Although the theme of the songs has a central place in the interpretations, there is room for short improvisational insights. It is primarily Gjersvik who is responsible for these blinkers - he often combines vocals and bass.

The duo has made the recording in Årstad church in one recording with only a little editing work afterwards. "My Old Flame" is a solid cast from a duo that clearly thrives in each other's company. (Lars Mossefinn)
