Dies ist Edward Gardners sechste Veröffentlichung auf dem LPO-Label und die dritte, die 20-jähriges Jubiläum des Labels im Jahr 2025 feiert. Dieses Britten-Programm wurde in Londons Royal Festival Hall (Sinfonia da Requiem und The Prince of the Pagodas) und Saffron Hall (Winter Words) aufgezeichnet. Brittens Sinfonia da Requiem ist ein mutiges, frühes Meisterwerk, das mit nur 2600 Jahren in Auftrag gegeben wurde, um dem 2600. Jahrestag Japans zu gedenken, wurde als zu feierlich abgelehnt, entstand aber als sein einziges großes rein Orchesterwerk und eine mächtige Reaktion auf die wachsende Kriegsbedrohung. Winter Words Brittens ergreifender Songzyklus ursprünglich für Tenor und Klavier, der auf Texte von 8 Gedichten von Thomas Hardy gesetzt wurde, wird hier in einer neuen Orchestration von Robin Holloway präsentiert - eine Weltpremiere-Aufnahme. The Prince of the Pagodas, Brittens Ballett mit Edward Gardners destillierter Konzertsuite aus The Prince of the Pagodas - eine weitere Weltpremiere-Aufnahme - erfüllt Brittens unrealisierten Ehrgeiz, sein durchgehendes Ballett in einer dramatischen Orchestersuite zu arrangieren.

Edward Gardner
in Gloucester geboren, ist seit 2022 Künstlerischen Berater der Norwegischen Nationaloper in Oslo und wird 2024 deren Musikdirektor. Seit der Saison 2021/22 fungiert er außerdem als Chefdirigent des London Philharmonic Orchestra. Dieselbe Position bekleidet er seit 2015 beim Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, mit dem er u. a. auf Tourneen in Berlin, München und Amsterdam, bei den BBC Proms und dem Edinburgh International Festival zu Gast war. Nach seinem Studium an der Royal Academy of Music in London war er von 2006 bis 2015 Musikdirektor der English National Opera. Als Operndirigent gastierte er mehrfach an der Metropolitan Opera New York, am Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, am Teatro alla Scala in Mailand, an der Chicago Lyric Opera, der Glyndebourne Festival Opera und der Opéra national de Paris. Auf dem Konzertpodium war er mit dem New York Philharmonic Orchestra, dem Chicago Symphony Orchestra, der San Francisco Symphony, dem Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, dem Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, den Wiener Symphonikern, dem Philharmonia Orchestra, dem City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra und dem BBC Symphony Orchestra zu erleben. 2022 gab er mit Peter Grimes sein Debüt an der Bayerischen Staatsoper.
