Info zu Mozart in Havana

Mozart in Havana is a musical collaboration between Simone Dinnerstein and the Cuba Youth Symphony. The album may be her most ambitious to date and is a testament to music's ability to cross all cultural and language barriers. For it, Dinnerstein has collaborated with the virtuosic Havana Lyceum Orchestra to perform Mozart's Piano Concerto Nos. 21 and 23.

In June, the Orchestra will also make their American debut in a series of concerts, the first time an orchestra of this size has traveled to the U.S. from Cuba since the revolution.

Classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein is famous for having self-released a successful album of Bach's Goldberg Variations in 2007, and has since gone on to release a string of critically acclaimed solo albums; she was among the top-selling artists on 2014's Billboard Classical Chart.

According to NPR, "She compels the listener to follow her in a journey of discovery filled with unscheduled detours. She's actively listening to every note she plays, and the result is a wonderfully expressive interpretation," while The Independent praised the "majestic originality of her vision."

Earlier this year, Sony Classical released her latest album, Broadway-Lafayette, which celebrates the musical link between France and the U.S. She also recently made her Italian debut with RAI Turin under Jeffrey Tate, played a recital in Seattle for the UW World Series, performed in Istanbul, and performed Bach concertos in Germany with the Bach Collegium Musicum along with recitals at Wolf Trap and New York's Metropolitan Museum.

She has also founded a concert series hosted by NYC public schools featuring musicians who perform for free to help raise funds for the schools. Last year she launched the "Bachpacking" initiative, bringing a digital piano into public schools, presenting interactive performances and encouraging the students to engage in discussions. A graduate of the Juilliard School, she has received a National Museum of Women in the Arts Award and the Classical Recording Foundation Award.

Pianist Simone Dinnerstein is a searching and inventive artist who is motivated by a desire to find the musical core of every work she approaches. The Independent praises the majestic originality of her vision and NPR reports, "She compels the listener to follow her in a journey of discovery filled with unscheduled detours...She s actively listening to every note she plays, and the result is a wonderfully expressive interpretation."
