Info zu La Bomba
La BOMBA is the debut album as a bandleader by bassist, composer, and producer Luca Curcio — a bold, rhythm-driven statement that reshapes the interplay between improvisation, production, and composition. It begins with the band in the studio, capturing composed pieces alongside spontaneous exchanges, raw energy, and collective chemistry. But these performances are only the starting point. Once recorded, they become raw material to be sampled, dismantled, and rebuilt. Horn lines become looping fragments, rhythmic layers splinter and collide, and acoustic textures mutate into unexpected sonic forms — transforming live improvisation into something entirely new.
At the heart of La BOMBA is rhythm — not just as a foundation but as a driving, physical force. Deep, percussive bass lines collide with fractured drum patterns, and grooves stretch and contract with elastic momentum. The result is music in constant motion, driven by the tension and dialogue between performance and production — music built to hit hard and move bodies, drawing its propulsion from beat-making, sampling, and the raw energy of improvisation.
La BOMBA also mirrors Curcio’s own path across Europe. Recorded in Copenhagen and reimagined in Berlin, the album reflects the spirit of the scenes that shaped it — open, restless, and in constant motion. That same energy runs through the band itself — Francesco Bigoni, Erik Kimestad, Sölvi Kolbeinsson, and Simon Olderskog Albertsen — whose fierce interplay and rhythmic drive give the music its character. Across its eight tracks, La BOMBA explores pulse, space, and interaction with immediacy and depth. It invites movement as much as reflection, offering a vision of contemporary jazz where improvisation and production stand on equal footing — and where the studio is as vital a space as the stage.
