Info zu Charles Harford Lloyd: Chamber Music for Clarinet
Charles Harford Lloyd (1849–1919) – Organist der Kathedrale von Gloucester und der Chapel Royal, Theologe und Konzertveranstalter in Oxford, Musiklehrer in Eton und vieles mehr – war einer der bedeutendsten Musiker des viktorianischen Englands. Der größte Teil seines Schaffens besteht aus Vokalmusik, meist für die Kirche; er komponierte nur eine Handvoll Kammermusikwerke, oft mit Klarinette. Er schrieb in einem leichten romantischen Idiom, in dem der Einfluss von Brahms oft hörbar ist, wie bei seinem engen Freund Hubert Parry. Lloyd verstand es, die Klarinette zum Singen zu bringen, mit einer schönen, langgliedrigen Melodie nach der anderen. Dieses erste Album seiner Kammermusik rettet eine längst vergessene Figur aus dem Schatten.
