Miguel Bonal wurde 1999 in Saragossa geboren und begann bereits mit sieben Jahren, Viola da gamba zu spielen. Sein Studium setzte er an der Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya fort, das er mit höchsten Auszeichnungen abschloss.

Für sein erstes Solo-Rezital, das im Rahmen der jungen Talenten gewidmeten Serie „Baroque Stories“ erscheint, hat er ein Programm aus maßgeblichen Werken für die Viola da gamba zusammengestellt – ergänzt um klug gewählte Transkriptionen. Es reicht von der kraftvollen, markigen Musik eines Tobias Hume über die raffinierte Eleganz von Marin Marais und Carl Friedrich Abel bis zur virtuosen Spielfreude eines Johann Schenck und der stilistischen Meisterschaft Telemanns. Miguel Bonal lässt uns zudem das ganze Geheimnis von Bachs zweiter Cellosuite d-Moll erleben, hier auf der Viola da gamba gespielt. Und er wagt den Sprung ins 19. Jahrhundert mit Gabriel Faurés berühmtem Après un rêve und Francisco Tárregas Recuerdos de la Alhambra – ein weiterer Beweis dafür, dass dieses Instrument die Jahrhunderte mühelos überdauert.

Miguel Bonal
Born in Zaragoza in 1999, Miguel began his musical training at the age of four thanks to his parents' encouragement, starting with piano lessons. Two years later, he discovered the viola da gamba, an instrument that captivated him with its sound and expressiveness. At the age of seven, he entered the Zaragoza Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Fernando Marín.

His commitment to the instrument led him, at the age of 18, to move to Barcelona to study viola da gamba at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), under the tutelage of Emmanuel Balsa, obtaining a first-class honours degree. During this period, he broadened his training by studying the baroque cello.

In 2021, she moved to The Hague (Netherlands) to pursue a Master's degree in viola da gamba at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, studying with Mieneke van der Velden. She completed her studies with honours and distinction for her ‘great virtuosity and musicality’.

He has received advice from renowned performers such as Guido Balestracci, Marianne Muller, Myriam Rignol, Noelia Reverte, Vittorio Ghielmi and Wieland Kuijken, and occasionally collaborates with artists such as Olivier Fortin (Ensemble Masques) and Manuel Minguillón (Collegium Musicum Madrid).

His artistic career has taken him to countries such as South Korea and Mexico, where he has also given master classes.

Miguel Bonal has been recognised in various national competitions, including the 2020 Spanish Youth Music Competition., where he won First Prize, the EMCY Prize and the Úbeda and Baeza Festival Prize. At the 2021 Primer Palau, held at the Palau de la Música Catalana, he was awarded a runner-up prize, the Critics' Prize and the Catalunya Música Prize, which enabled him to record his first solo album, From silence, including his own arrangement of Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Francisco Tárrega.

Since 2021, Miguel has been the project director of Patrimonio Sonoro and currently combines his artistic activity with teaching the viola da gamba at the Murcia Professional Conservatory of Music.
