Dieses Album präsentiert drei klassische Gershwin-Stücke, die in Ersteinspielungen der neuen Gershwin Critical Edition zu hören sind. Die Edition versucht, die Intentionen des Komponisten unter Verwendung aller vorhandenen Manuskripte und anderer Quellen, wie z. B. Klavierrollen, so genau wie möglich wiederzugeben. Im Falle der Rhapsody in Blue basiert die Ausgabe auf Ferde Grofés symphonischem Arrangement, obwohl 44 Takte der ursprünglichen Jazzband-Version enthalten sind. Ebenfalls enthalten sind die Zweite Rhapsodie und die Kubanische Ouvertüre sowie Joan Towers treibende Studie über Rhythmus und Textur und Steven Stuckys gespenstische Walzerbeschwörungen.

Kevin Cole
