Der amerikanische Star-Pianist Kenny Werner und der skandinavische Saxophonist Benjamin Koppel sind durch ihre 15 Jahre andauernde, häufige musikalische Zusammenarbeit zu musikalischen Brüdern geworden. Ihr Duo-Album WALDEN wurde hoch gelobt, ebenso wie ihre lange Reihe anderer Veröffentlichungen, darunter COALITION mit Lionel Loueke und FREEBOP mit David Liebman. Scott Colley, bekannt durch seine Arbeit mit Carmen McCrae, Herbie Hancock und Jim Hall, arbeitet seit Ewigkeiten mit Kenny zusammen. Kenny und Jack DeJohnette (bekannt von seiner Arbeit mit etwa Miles Davis oder Keith Jarrett) spielen ebenfalls seit Jahrzehnten zusammen. Scott und Benjamin sind enge Freunde und musikalische Kameraden. Sowohl das Duo als auch ihr working trio , das KOPPEL-COLLEY-BLADE COLLECTIVE, arbeiten zusammen mit dem Top-Drummer Brian Blade. Scott und Jack haben schon oft zusammen gespielt, unter anderem in der Gruppe HUDSON mit John Scofield. Alles in allem kennen sich diese vier Musiker sehr gut, sie sind alle Teil einer Jazzfamilie, die ständig die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen des musikalischen Ausdrucks auf dem Gebiet dessen erforschen, was uns als Jazz bekannt.

Benjamin Koppel
Danish saxophonist and composer, is one of the most award-winning musicians of his generation, known for his versatility and virtuosity.

Koppel’s musical background is deeply rooted in his family, being the grandson of famous Danish classic composer Herman D. Koppel, and the son of the greatest Danish beat musician of his generation; Anders Koppel, who had great success worldwide with the band ”Savage Rose”. The music genre of the family spreads out from classical to jazz and pop genre and Benjamin Koppel masters all the genres with the outmost perfection.

He formed his first band when he was 15 years old. He has appeared on more than 200 recordings, and composed more than 300 music pieces for recordings, movies and theatre. The variety of his musical collaborations is wide, and has established him as a sought after musician internationally. As a soloist and bandleader, he has performed/recorded with Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Lee Konitz, Kenny Werner, Scott Colley, Brian Blade, Jim Hall, David Liebman, Randy Brecker, David Sanchez, Markus Stockhausen, Phil Woods, Daniel Humair, Palle Danielsson, Alex Riel, Miroslav Vitous, Anders Koppel, Inger Dam Jensen, Michala Petri, Adam Nussbaum, Chano Dominguez, Paul Bley, Charlie Mariano, Portinho, Sheryl Crow, and others.
