Info zu Live At Electric Lady

The Jack Antonoff-fronted band joins artists such as Patti Smith, Japanese Breakfast and more in sharing their special live sessions from the famed studio once owned by Jimi Hendrix.

“Live at Electric Lady: a collection of live recordings that were made over the past year in studio D, on the roof and around the building,” (Jack Antonoff)

He continues, “when the pandemic hit i felt the need to be with my band in a different way than i had in the past. the line between studio and live has always been a thick one for me. i never felt i wanted to capture the energy of the live show in the studio. wanted something different. in the same way, i never wanted to just play the recordings as they were at the shows. but then shows are gone …… knowing that that release and celebration wasn’t on the books changed my perspective. i brought my band into electric lady as much as possible. at the time it wasn’t safe to be indoors or close to each other we played on the roof – when we could actually be in the same room we played in studio D with our heads on fire. i can ask my band all i want to play a take like they may never play again, but it’s gonna sound different when we were actually faced with that reality. these recordings are all one take and captured from those very moments when we didn’t know the next time we would get to play together after these sessions. in addition, electric lady has been my home and my family for years now. when i’m not on tour i’m there every day and there has not been a morning that i walk through those doors that i haven’t felt the deepest joy and honor to call that building home. what lee has run with and created in that building is the only place i know where i feel completely safe to make my work. love to him, john, laura, and the entire staff – they’re all over these recordings in many ways. and big thanks to bruce and annie for jumping on the roof with us for what ended up being the first time these songs were ever played live. x ELS X BLEACHERS forever x”

The band’s third studio album was recorded primarily at Electric Lady Studios and was released this summer to great fanfare. Bleachers is currently on their sold out US tour which has taken them across the country in front of their largest audiences to date.

Bleachers

Bleachers
The solo project of Fun. guitarist/producer Jack Antonoff, New York's Bleachers make buoyantly hooky, grandly emotional pop music influenced by '80s pop and college rock. The group's debut, 2014's Strange Desire, cracked the Top 20 of the Billboard 200. They returned in 2017 with their sophomore album, Gone Now.

Antonoff initially began working on music for Bleachers in 2012 while touring in support of Fun.'s Grammy-winning album Some Nights. Drawing upon his love of '80s pop and darker college rock sounds (especially the soundtracks of classic '80s John Hughes films like The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink), he recorded the songs onto his laptop. The group's debut single, "I Wanna Get Better," was released in the spring of 2014 by RCA, with an album, Strange Desire, following that summer. The record was produced in part by John Hill and Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Yaz, Erasure) and featured appearances by Yoko Ono and Grimes. After the record's release, Antonoff put together a live band and launched a tour that lasted through much of 2015. That September, Bleachers released Terrible Thrills, Vol. 2, which featured versions of all the songs from Strange Desire performed by female artists, including Carly Rae Jepsen, Elle King, Tinashe, and Antonoff's sister Rachel.

For 2017's Gone Now, which reunited Bleachers with Clarke and featured a cameo by Lorde, he took inspiration from his memories of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and his sister's death from cancer when he was 18. He recorded the album in his home studio and previewed it in an art installation that replicated his childhood bedroom. The album peaked at number six on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart. A second compilation, Terrible Thrills, Vol. 3, arrived the following year. In November 2020, Bleachers released the single "Chinatown," which featured guest vocals by Bruce Springsteen.
