There is more Spain in Offenbach’s brain than in Spain itself’, said a journalist entranced by Maître Péronilla. Understandably so, given the charm and humour of this operetta in which no fewer than twenty-two characters are kept busy unravelling a preposterously complicated love story. And the libretto is all the better for having been penned by the composer himself.

Castanets, tambourines and triangle merrily punctuate one of Offenbach’s last scores, which multiplies impressive vocal ensembles while not renouncing intimate numbers of great poetry. Our world premiere recording features specialists of this repertory such as Éric Huchet and Loïc Félix, but also opera singers more unexpected in this context – including Véronique Gens – who audibly delight in letting their hair down in such joyful company, ably supported by the talents of the Orchestre National de France and the Choeur de Radio France.

Der Münchner Dirigent Markus Poschner, der seit seiner Auszeichnung mit dem Deutschen Dirigentenpreis 2004 regelmäßig bei den national und international renommiertesten Orchestern zu Gast ist, wird heute insbesondere für seine Aufsehen erregenden Interpretationen und Einspielungen der Werke von Beethoven, Brahms und Bruckner geschätzt. So wurde seine kürzlich für SONY CLASSICAL entstandene Gesamteinspielung der Brahms-Sinfonien durch das Orchestra della Svizzera italiana mit den renommierten „International Classical Music Award 2018“ ausgezeichnet.

Mit Beginn der Spielzeit 2017/18 übernahm Markus Poschner die Position des Chefdirigenten des Bruckner Orchester Linz sowie des Opernchefs am Landestheater Linz. Ein vollkommen eigener und aufregend neuer Zugang zum Werk Anton Bruckners ist dort Poschners musikalische Vision.

Nach dem Studium in München und als Assistent von Sir Roger Norrington und Sir Colin Davis wirkte Poschner ab 2006 als Erster Kapellmeister an der Komischen Oper Berlin. Als »großes Nachwuchstalent« bezeichnete ihn die Neue Zürcher Zeitung, als er mit Regisseuren wie Nicolas Stemann, Benedikt von Peter, Hans Neuenfels, Peter Konwitschny, Andreas Homoki und Sebastian Baumgarten zusammenarbeitete.

Im Jahre 2007 wurde er zum Generalmusikdirektor der Freien Hansestadt Bremen ernannt. Hier hat sich Poschner, der auch ein fulminanter Jazzpianist ist, den Ruf als programmatischer Grenzgänger erarbeitet: Gemeinsam mit den Bremer Philharmonikern war er ständig auf der Suche nach Neuartigem und Ungehörtem in Programmatik, Interpretation und Präsentationsform. Mit seinem besonderen Gespür für die Vermittlung klassischer Musik löste er dort regelrecht einen Publikumsboom aus. Im Theater Bremen entwickelte er vor allen Dingen mit dem Regisseur Benedikt von Peter völlig eigene Wege und Formen zeitgenössischen Musiktheaters.

Mit Beginn der Saison 2015/16 übernahm Markus Poschner außerdem die Position des Chefdirigenten des Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. Gleich zu Beginn seiner ersten Spielzeit eröffnete er dort den außergewöhnlichen Konzertsaal LAC direkt am Luganer See.

Markus Poschner wurde von vielen der international renommiertesten Klangkörper und Opernhäuser als Gast eingeladen, darunter Staatskapelle Dresden, Dresdner Philharmoniker, Bamberger Symphoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker, Wiener Symphoniker, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, die Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester in Berlin, Wien, Leipzig, Stuttgart und Köln, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, Orchestre National de France, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokio Metropolitan Orchestra, sowie Staatsoper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Stuttgarter Staatsoper, Oper Köln, Oper Frankfurt und Opernhaus Zürich.

Mit vielen dieser Orchester und Opernhäuser verbindet ihn inzwischen eine enge künstlerische Partnerschaft. An der Staatsoper Berlin etwa, wo Markus Poschner im Jahr 2014 debütierte, dirigierte er mittlerweile auch Tosca, die Zauberflöte, Fliegender Holländer und die Wagner/Jelinek-Produktion „Rein Gold“. Auch am Opernhaus Zürich steht nun nach Fidelio und Fliegender Holländer im Herbst 2018 eine Neuproduktion von Hänsel und Gretel in der Regie von Robert Carson bevor.

Als Erster Gastdirigent der Dresdner Philharmoniker von 2010 bis 2014 waren dort mit Markus Poschner sämtliche Beethoven-Sinfonien zu hören. Dem Orchester ist er weiterhin eng verbunden und erarbeitet mit ihm aktuell einen Mahler-Zyklus. Seit 2002 ist er außerdem Erster Gastdirigent des Deutschen Kammerorchesters Berlin, das er ebenso langjährig prägte wie das legendäre Georgische Kammerorchester, dessen Chefdirigent er von 2000 bis 2006 war.

Durch seine unkonventionelle und frische Herangehensweise überzeugte Markus Poschner schnell auch die Presse: »…so atemberaubend hat man Beethoven lange nicht mehr gehört« schwärmte der Berliner Tagesspiegel, »Extra-Applaus immer wieder zwischendurch für den jungen Dirigenten« die FAZ, »hinreißende Interpretationen« meldeten die Dresdner Neuesten Nachrichten, »genialisch« meinte Die Welt. Über sein Debüt in seiner Heimatstadt schrieb die Süddeutsche Zeitung: »Poschner bringt die Münchner Philharmoniker immer wieder wunderbar zum Leuchten«.

Die Universität Bremen ernannte Markus Poschner im Juli 2010 zum Honorarprofessor am Institut für Musikwissenschaft.

The Orchestre National de France
is one of the most prestigious symphony orchestras in France. Based in Paris, the ONF was originally founded in 1934 and to this day maintains a very high profile both domestically and internationally. Since 1945 they have been managed by the French public service radio broadcaster Radio France with many of their concerts being broadcast live from their Paris headquarters – the ‘Maison de la Radio’. Between 1960-1980 they recorded extensively for EMI and rose to international fame with their recordings of Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique” and Debussy’s “Orchestral Works”. During the years they have performed with such legendary conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Charles Munch, Wolfgang Sawallisch and Seiji Ozawa and today operate under the musical direction of the French conductor Emmanuel Krivine.
