Info for Jill Crossland plays Chopin

Reviews of previous Jill Crossland releases: “What strikes first is the sheer variety of Crossland’s styles – a virtuosity of interpretation. Her performance modes allow both softness of touch and hardness of articulation … At all times, her playing is assuredly clear and controlled … Her sense of structure and form is outstanding – making the might of climaxes an experience of passionate dynamism and something inexorable … Crossland has put her admirable technique in the service of her cool-headed compassion” - ClassicalSource.com

“Within seconds you’re drawn into the gentle hammer-strokes that unlock Crossland’s warm, rounded and perpetually singing sonority … The preludes inspire Crossland’s best work” - Gramophone

Jill Crossland,piano

Jill Crossland
was born in Yorkshire, and began playing the piano at the age of four. She studied at Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, with Charles Hopkins and Ryszard Bakst. While a student, Jill performed the complete cycle of Bach's 48 Preludes & Fugues from memory, and won the Pinson Book Prize for her Bach playing. She later studied in Vienna with Paul Badura-Skoda, and performed throughout Austria as soloist and chamber player.

Since her return to the UK, Jill has played extensively at major venues including the South Bank and Wigmore Hall in London, and has made several radio and TV appearances. She is now pursuing an active concert and recording career.

Jill's recordings are available from Warner Classics, Divine Art and Signum Classics, including a complete recording of Bach's Well-tempered Clavier and his Goldberg variations. Jill is a member of the Musicians in Residence scheme, supported by funding from Arts Council England.
