Klänge wie aus einer anderen Welt sind auf dieser Produktion zu hören. Sie breiten sich im Raum aus und entschwinden. Oder besser: sie vergehen, verdunsten, kristallisieren, sie lagern sich ab. In dieser Musik geht es um das Verklingenlassen, das Fortklingen, den Nach-Hall. Europäische Instrumente klingen asiatisch und asiatische werden in die europäische Kunstmusik integriert. Immer wieder stellt der 1985 in Deutschland eingewanderte Xiaoyong Chen – einst Kompositionsschüler von György Ligeti, heute selbst Professor für Komposition an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg – die Frage nach dem Dazugehören. Und die große Frage: Sind fremde Kulturen wirklich zu verstehen? »Der große Ton hat unhörbaren Laut, das große Bild hat keine Form«, lautet ein berühmter Satz von Laozi, der in chinesischen Schri zeichen auf dem Cover dieser Einspielung (durch das Ensemble Les Amis Shanghai unter der Leitung von Jensen Horn-Sin Lam) steht.

Ensemble Les Amis Shanghai
Ensemble Les Amis Shanghai (ELA), founded by the violist and pedagogue Professor Jensen Sin-Lam in 2009, is the only professional chamber music ensemble in Shanghai included in the Directory of Chinese Music for External Recommendation by the Ministry of Culture. Made up of young teachers from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and members of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the ensemble works for the promotion of chamber music, and its style of playing seeks a synthesis of clarity, exquisiteness and audacity. ELA has a broad repertoire of more than one hundred works spanning more than three hundred years, from the Baroque era to the 21st Century. In addition to works from the traditional canon, it specialises in excellent yet seldom performed pieces from different nations and styles, including many Chinese premières.
